Spring Break Trip to Charleston, South Carolina

We are SO thankful that we had the opportunity to take a spring break trip to Charleston, South Carolina before the craziness of the Coronavirus hit! I had been to Charleston once before for a photography workshop, & I’ve wanted to go back with Dyl ever since!! After we booked our flights back in December, I started making a list of all of the Charleston restaurants & sights we wanted to try to fit in during our 4 day trip.

Thankfully we had the most BEAUTIFUL weather every day we were there -such a gift! We walked a TON, but it was so worth it. Because we only rented a car for our beach day, we really got to see SO much by walking and renting bikes. For most of our meals, we made reservations which meant we only had to wait for a table a couple of times during the whole trip!

After flying into Charleston late Friday night, we immediately hit the ground running the next morning! Saturday was definitely our FULLEST day. We wanted to fit in as much as possible just in case it rained later during our trip (thankfully it didn’t!)

Saturday began with breakfast at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit then walking around the College of Charleston (scenes from “The Notebook” were filmed there – it is a GORGEOUS campus). Next we saw the famous Pineapple Fountain & Rainbow Row. Lunch at Poogan’s Smokehouse was delicious, then we rode bikes all around downtown (absolutely terrifying but SO much fun!). That afternoon we had coffee at The Rise Coffee Bar followed by dinner at Monza Pizza Bar & dessert at Jeni’s Ice Cream! YES we ate a LOT on this trip, but we definitely walked most of it off!! We walked 7.5 miles & rode bikes 2.5 miles during the first day alone…so crazy!

On Sunday, we decided to take things a LOT slower considering we were exhausted from all of that walking we did on Saturday! Our day started with a delicious brunch at Poogan’s Porch, then we walked around “2nd Sunday on King Street” (a monthly street festival we just happened to be there for!). We stopped for a snack at King Street Cookies & then went back a second time on Tuesday because it was that good! I had been to Jestine’s Kitchen during my prior trip to Charleston, so I knew we had to go on this trip – and thankfully shrimp & grits were the special on Sunday – AMAZING!

On Monday, we rented a car to drive to Folly Beach & Sullivan’s Island! The day included breakfast at Lost Dog Cafe, reading on the beach, visiting the famous Angel Oak Tree, & a trip to Palmetto State Armory (Dyl was in heaven). We drove back to Charleston & ended the day with dinner at Florence’s Lowcountry Kitchen!

It was so fun to kick off our last day with a morning photoshoot by my friend Amy Owen which was so much fun! After the shoot, we had brunch at Miller’s All Day (the cinnamon roll was definitely a highlight of the trip) & walked around Historic Charleston. We ended the trip with one of our favorite meals of the whole trip – dinner at Fleet Landing (thanks to our friends the Lowrys for the recommendation!)
