A year ago today, we loaded up the U-Haul (with the help of some of our best friends & family), & made the short 30 minute drive across town to our new house. We had officially become home-owners just a week before, & after nights & days of painting our new house, a weekend in Houston shooting a wedding, & packing up all of our stuff, we were finally headed to begin our journey in The Hambick House! It’s been a whirl-wind of a year. In addition to buying our house, Dylan started a new teaching & coaching job, I continued to grow my wedding photography business, we bought 2 boats with the hopes of restoring them, then turned around & sold them both (another LONG story for another day, thank goodness my husband is a boss at reselling things), & we added our puppy Zeke to our family. Through all of this as well as other changes, hardships, & blessings, we’ve seen God’s faithfulness come through every. single. time. He’s taught us so much in this short year, & we couldn’t be more grateful for all of the ways He has stretched our faith in Him, no matter how hard it’s been at times.

As we’ve started & stopped & finished some of our house projects (you can read about those here, here, & here), one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that goals for projects are great, but the reality is that if we are constantly working our house, we will NEVER truly have a chance to just enjoy living here. As much as I usually have a “let’s get this project done” attitude, God has taught me so much about slowing down, truly taking in the moments we get to live here, & just being ok with things being “unfinished”, “incomplete”, or “not perfect”. As much as this house has been a gift, I’d say learning to embrace the imperfect has been the greatest gift of all.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from year one in The Hambick House! It’s been such a great year, but I truly believe that the best is yet to come!
